Opportunities in our group
- Post-doctoral fellow: If you have finished your PhD and are looking to gain more experience in the area of analog/mixed-signal IC design, you can apply to IITM's post-doctoral positions or senior positions in our projects. For post-doctoral positions, follow instructions at this link. For project positions, write to individual faculty about availability.
- PhD: If you have finished your master's degree, you can apply for our PhD positions. Shortlisting is based on PG and UG scores.
- Direct PhD: You can join the MS+PhD program directly after your bachelors degree. Shortlisting is based on UG and GATE scores. GATE score requirement is waived for CFTI applicants.
- MS: If you have finished your bachelor's degree, you can apply for our MS positions. Shortlisting is based on UG and GATE scores. GATE score requirement is waived for CFTI applicants.
- Texas Instruments sponsored MS program: We have an MS program in analog/mixed-signal design sponsored by Texas Instruments. Shortlisting is based on UG and GATE scores. GATE score requirement is waived for CFTI applicants. This program provides enhanced stipends and a long-term internship opportunity at Texas Instruments during the MS program.
- Project associate: We have a number of sponsored projects for which we need suitably qualified staff. Enquire with us to find out about these.
- Internship: You can apply for summer internships in your third year at this portal. We also take semester-long interns on a case-by-case basis. If your institution permits students to go on semester-long internships, write to us for possible opportunities.
- Internship + Final year at IITM: IIT Madras has MoUs with a number of CFTIs that allows students interested in pursuing a PhD at IITM to (a) spend the summer after the third year at IITM, (b) spend the final year of the BTech at IITM, and (c) continue for PhD at IITM. Progress to each stage is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the previous stage. Students are nominated by the parent institution. Enquire with your institution for more information.
Opportunities for course-based students
MTech students can pursue their final-year project in the group. BTech students can purse their final-semester project or mini-projects(UGRC) in the group. The key to successful outcome in these is continuous effort throughout the duration of the project.
Mode of admission
Admissions to PhD/Direct MS/PhD programs are through interviews held twice a year. Apply at this link. If you are interested in working with me, you can contact me beforehand with your CV. For project positions and internships, write to me.
Pursuing part-time MS/PhD
We have the part-time and external MS/PhD programs for employees of related industries and government research labs. Shortlisting is based on interviews. This will be successful only if your work at the company is aligned with the MS/PhD research topic. Discuss these with your employer and the faculty with whom you are interested in working.
Pre-requisites
Admission to our MS/PhD programs are through interviews held twice a year-roughly in May and November. Application site will be open respectively in February/March and September/October. The interview will be preceded by a screening test. Take a look at http://www.ee.iitm.ac.in/academics/graduate-admissions/ (See Syllabi) and prepare accordingly. You'll be asked questions related to analog circuits (e.g. of the kind seen in courses like Basic Electrical Circuits and Analog Circuits). Example questions are given here.
When we take in project associates, it is with a hope that they will contribute to research and enrol in our MS/PhD programs. As a project assistant, you'll be allowed to take our courses which can be later credited towards your MS/PhD programs. For project associate positions, we will have an interview similar to the one for MS/PhD positions. See the topics below and prepare accordingly. The interview can be scheduled when you feel you are adequately prepared.
Internship aspirants are expected to be familiar with basic circuit analysis(described in Basic Electrical Circuits)
The resources below cover the relevant topics you are expected to know for the interview.
- IIT Madras courses Electrical and Magnetic Circuits, Electrical Circuits and Networks, Analog Systems and Laboratory, and Analog Circuits deal with electrical networks and analog circuits
- Basic Electrical Circuits: Online course on NPTEL
- Analog Circuits: Online course on NPTEL
- Electrical Networks: Hayt and Kemmerly, Engineering Circuit Analysis, McGraw Hill, 6/e. Chapters 1-10.
- Analog electronics: Sergio Franco, Design with operational amplifiers and analog ICs, Tata McGraw Hill. Chapters 1-5, 8-10
- Analog electronics: Sedra and Smith, Microelectronic Circuits, Oxford University Press, USA, seventh edition. Chapters 2, 7 and their pre-requisites. Other editions have similar content in different chapters.
